Boys Volleyball Takes a Hit from Waukegan
The boys varsity volleyball team fell short to Waukegan in their first game on Wednesday night.
The Sequoits lost their first match of the season, getting beat by the Bulldogs in two games, 25-22 and 25-23.
Senior Tommy Howe felt confident in the team’s performance.
“I think that as a team, this was one of the strongest first-game performances we’ve had in quite awhile. We came out with energy and kept it going throughout the entire match. I also feel that we played a very smart game, making the right decisions with what to do with the ball the majority of the time,” said Howe.
Senior Ian Flatley is also proud of how the team played.
“We dug some pretty hard balls, our serve receive was really great, and the sets and hit just looked better than ever,” said Flatley.
With a tough season last year, the hopes are high as a new season begins.
“I expect that we are definitely going to have a stronger year than last year. I’ve noticed a lot more intensity and desire to win in the team this year than last year, and I also think we have a few new pieces that will help contribute to our success. If we continue to play smart and with intensity, I think we’re going to have a great season,” said Howe.
“We really improved from last year and I see a lot of great things coming from everyone. For the rest of the season I expect us to grow as a team and to improve in all aspects. I’m expecting to win more games this year and to get our names up on the competition lost for other teams. I think this will be our best season yet,” said Flatley.
Good luck to the boys and the rest of their season.
