Boys Soccer Misses the Shot Against the Zee-Bees
Boys varsity soccer plays a tough game against Zion Benton, ending with a 5-1 loss.
Coming off of their big win at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy invitational, the boy’s varsity soccer team was looking to have the same success at their game against Zion earlier this week. During the first half of the game, senior Alex Keeler scored on a volley, assisted by freshman Brock Jurinek, making the score 1-0. The game was looking good for the Sequoits as sophomore Eli Ruano played good defense and blocked a few of goals. At the half, the boys were looking forward to improving their lead against the Zee-Bees and pull off a win.
During the second half of the game, hope was soon lost for the Sequoits. Senior goalie, Ian Gugel, let in four goals making the score 4-1. The boys were losing their intensity while the Zee-Bees played even harder. The Sequoits efforts just weren’t enough to pull ahead and win the game. Senior Joey Whittall had a few nice saves towards the end of the game, but ended up letting in one last goal making the final score 5-1. Even after the upsetting loss, the Sequoits are still looking to improve their performance in future games.
“The team has been working together as a whole to improve,” senior Easton Herbon said. “We’ve been trying to learn how to compliment one another’s play style so we can perform better as a team.”
Be sure to keep up with the boys as they hope to improve their record as the season progresses.
