On Wednesday, September 30, the Antioch Community High Schoolboys golf team played in the Northern Lake County Conference tournament at Fox Lake Country Club. Both the varsity and junior varsity teams attended this tournament. The team believed they did not play the best they could have and came in fourth place. Although they did not end how they wanted to, the team kept their heads held high and went on with the season.
“I stayed positive because I knew that I could’ve done better, and the team could’ve done better,” sophomore Ethan Frasch said. “My putting was not good, and neither was the teams.”
Many teams did not play up to their expected ability during this tournament. The course was tough and the conditions were not ideal. When one is playing golf, the course and weather can have a big impact on how they play and how the ball reacts. Some courses might have soft greens, while others may have harder greens.
“The course was super hilly,” freshman James Sheehan said. “My legs were terrible after the first nine holes but it was nice, and the weather was sunny, windy and a little cold.”
The team was able to overcome the weather conditions, and overall, they were not upset about it. They were more than satisfied the team tried their best to play well.
“I felt the experience last week at the conference tournament prepared us for having our best round this week at regionals,” junior varsity coach Jim White said “Everyone had something they knew they needed to address at practice in order to score better when it really matters in the tournament. Coming off our quad victory on Saturday, we are going to roll at regionals!”
The varsity golf team played in another tournament on Saturday, October 3, and improved their game since the conference tournament. They played against Richmond Burton, Woodstock and Johnsburg at Spring Valley Country Club, taking home first place. The teams next tournament is regionals at Stonewall Orchard Golf Club on Tuesday, October 6.
