The Antioch Community High School boys’ basketball season ended on Feb. 26, and for the third straight year, they lost to Notre Dame College Prep in the regional semifinal. Nonetheless, The Sequoits’ season brimmed with success. They finished with a record of 17-14 which is the same record from their 2022-23 season, tying for the most wins since 1997. The Sequoits went undefeated at home, going 9-0, showing their commitment to defend their home court. Unfortunately, they had an 11-3 conference record, which was one game shy of back-to-back conference titles. Grayslake Central High School took sole possession of the Northern Lake County Conference championship this year with a conference record of 12-2. Since coach Sean Connor arrived at ACHS, he has finished top three in the NLCC in three out of his four seasons as head coach.
This year, seniors Marshall Gehrke and Teddi Wetu both achieved milestones. Gehrke surpassed 1,000 career points in a 63-43 victory vs. Chicago Sullivan High School and became just the fourth 1,000-point scorer in ACHS history. Meanwhile, Wetu became the single-season steals leader, with 69 total steals in his senior year; Wetu was also the single-season steals leader in his junior year with 61 and broke his record from last year. Wetu and fellow senior Jason Lee were named to the NLCC All-Conference team, with Wetu averaging 15.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, and Lee averaging a near-double-double with 9.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.
Connor and the 2025 seniors started at ACHS the same year, meaning they are the first group Connor has coached for an entire four years. When the seniors began playing at ACHS as freshmen, the Sequoits had not won a conference title since 1981. This group changed the culture and established ACHS as one of the top teams in Lake County. Throughout Connor’s first four years, they have amassed a 38-18 conference record.
ACHS boys basketball has come a long way from going 1-26 in 2007, to going 17-14 in 2025. Improvements have been made and the results are beginning to appear. With the returning talent they will have, along with new talent coming in, the Sequoits are bound for another successful season under head coach Sean Connor.
