Boys Basketball Falls to Wauconda
A last second foul leads to a loss for the boys basketball team.
Antioch Community High School’s boys basketball team started off their season fairly well with a three game record of 2-1. Going into their game on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Wauconda High School the team knew the game would be a challenge. This 2014-2015 season, Wauconda has a competitive basketball program. Antioch was prepared for the awaiting them.
Led by junior Trevor Koch and senior Jason Mrkonich, Antioch came into the game strong. The lead went back and forth between the Sequoits and Bulldogs for the whole game. However, it was a foul and two free throws during the last second of the game that decided the final outcome.
With a half second left in the game and the score tied at 48-48, an Antioch player pushed a Wauconda player and the referees called a foul allowing the Bulldogs to get a chance to score as they were in the bonus. Wauconda took advantage of the foul sinking both free throws and coming out with a 50-48 victory.
The boys basketball team is now 2-2 but their record does not speak for their ability and potential. Come out and support the boys at their next game at Westosha Central on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 5:00 p.m.
