Blue Devils Slay the Sequoits
The girls varsity softball team had their second away game against Warren Township High School this past weekend.
This past Friday, the Sequoits had to face off against the Warren Blue Devils on their home turf for their second game of the season. Antioch was off to a rough start in the early innings, such as struggling to break through the defensive line. However, a huge contributor was the below-freezing temperatures the girls had to overcome.
Warren opened up the game with a five-run second inning. The big blow came from Warren’s junior Ashlyn Kitter with her two run hit. The Sequoits were able to overcome this deficit as the game continued on, battling with the Blue Devils as the score bounced back and forth.
However, junior left fielder Megan Lawrence was able to keep the Sequoits in the game with this season’s first solo home run, forcing the eighth inning with a score of 6-6.
Junior second baseman Abby Pyburn contributed with three hits as well as senior designated hitter Kaylee Schreiner and junior third baseman Avery Malicki providing two hits each.
In the end, the Blue Devils were able to slay the Sequoits with a final score of 7-6 in the bottom of the eighth inning.
“I thought the girls played well,” Dana Lawrence said. “We have a lot of first time varsity starters so we are in a growing period. The girls worked hard and worked as a team and finished strong. It was a fun game.”
Come support the girls at their first home game on March 22, at 4:30 PM against Woodstock North.
