The Sequoits try their best at batting in order to gain more runs for the team.

On Friday April 27, the Antioch varsity baseball team faced off against Grayslake Central in the last of the three games played against each other. In this set of games, the Sequoits took the first win on Tuesday April 24, with a score of 6-5. On Wednesday, however, the Sequoits lost against Rams with a score of 3-1. Because of this, the Sequoits went into the game with high hopes that they could win.

“Going into the game, we were confident that we could give them their second loss of the year since we were able to give them their first,” junior Sean Weiser said.

The game started off slow with no runs scoring in the fist inning but picked up very quickly as the Rams scored four and the Sequoits scored three in the second. In the third inning, the Sequoits were able to tie up the game by scoring another run, making the score 4-4.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, however, two Grayslake Central players ran into each other while going for a fly ball and ended up hurting each other. One ended up getting up and was feeling alright, but the other was knocked out for a few minutes before he started waking up and talking while being transferred into the ambulance.

The game then continued on until Grayslake Central scored two more runs in the seventh inning, leading to the game being cut short and the Rams taking a 7-4 win against the Sequoits.

“I felt pretty bad after the game because the game got cut short and you never want to see something like what happened to the guy on the other team getting hurt,” junior Jack Gillespie said. “In practice we will probably work on sharpening our defense now.”
