Antioch Teens Left Out Of Town Events
With a limited amount of events in Antioch being geared towards teenagers, students look to ACHS for a wider variety of options.
To citizens of Antioch, the town is a small, friendly place with something to do and a new adventure around every corner. Some of the most popular events in Antioch are Taste Of Summer, Dickens Holiday Village and the Thursday Concert Series. All of these events are very well attended each year and give families a time to gather up all of the kids and bond. However, as summer slips away and autumn approaches, many teens are left out of town gatherings and are forced to find another pass time.
As the clock ticks on summer, being a teen in Antioch seems to get even harder. The only events that teens find worthy of attending are the various carnivals scattered throughout Lake County and anything new that might be happening at the Public Library. In Antioch, people are lucky to have the library, however not every teenager is interested in clubs for young writers or anime. The lack of activities makes it hard to keep the youth of the town busy and interested.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Ayala shared her thoughts on Antioch’s lack of teen-geared events.
“I feel like it’s unfair because there are less chances [for teens] to interact,” Ayala said. “The only thing that [Antioch] does for kids is the Christmas Tree lighting. They don’t have a lot of events in this time because it’s geared more toward sports.”
Even though the town has more events catered towards adults, Antioch Community High School has a plethora of options for students. There is an abundance of clubs, activities and events hosted by the school every day. Students can join their class student council, attend an athletic event almost every day or join groups like Poetry Club, Interact Club and many more. A listing of all of the clubs and organizations at Antioch Community High School can be found on their website.
