On Friday, Jan. 21, the girls varsity basketball team took on the Wauconda Bulldogs at home. The Sequoits had a tough back and forth battle with the game going down to the buzzer but falling short with a 40-41 loss to the Bulldogs. The team played hard and made a large comeback but fell just short of the win.
Senior Cardinal Crazy member Zachary Lewis tells us how he felt after the game.
“The girls played good offense and good defense all around good game, I tip my hat to the Sequoits,” Lewis said.
The girls played hard and made it a game where the fans enjoyed cheering until the final buzzer. In this tough loss, the lady Sequoits showed that they have things to work on heading into the final stretch of their season.
Many of the girls basketball players believe they can improve on the defensive side of the ball.
“In the last quarter we had a couple defensive breakdowns that gave up a few baskets. We need to improve on our defensive communication and stay disciplined in situations,” Kaiser said.
The Sequoits saw many bright spots that came from this loss.
“It was definitely one of our best defensive games and although we didn’t win, we played hard the whole time,” senior Maggie Volkmar said.
The Seqouits showed how their defense is coming along game by game and they need to stay locked in during their crucial moments. With these small improvements over the course of the next few weeks, the Sequoits will continue to compete against good teams in conference.
Volkmar told us in the tough loss that there were a few bright spots.
“We worked well passing the ball around the court to get open shots,” Volkmar said.
Volkmar also exaggerated that their defense is a work in progress and they will continue to work hard on the defensive side of the ball.
In a tough loss to the Wauconda Bulldogs, the lady Seqouits continued to show bright spots by passing the ball around to get good uncontested shots.
