The golf team is riding high off the conference championship that took place on Sept. 20. Senior Donald Barnett has been working toward a conference championship since he was a freshman. He is happy with how his coaches prepared them for the big tournament and how the team has worked in the off-season to win the conference.
“Winning the conference should set a standard for the future and become the floor of our team and not the ceiling,” Barnett said.
Senior Dawson Gutke has been playing golf since he was a freshman and this year is his first year on varsity. Gutke has improved his game greatly since he was a freshman and has contributed a lot to the team this fall. He feels confident about the team’s ability to move on to regionals and continue on into sectionals. Gutke gives a lot of credit to the practices the days before they played in the conference tournament.
“To prepare for the conference, we went to Bittersweet instead of Spring Valley, hit some range balls and bunker shots, the main goal was to get used to a terrain that we’d be golfing in,” Gutke said.
Senior Ethan Frasch is one of the leaders on this team. He loves the game and puts all of his effort into making improvements. Frasch is not in contempt for just winning a team conference championship. Frasch has ambitions of winning the regional tournament and maybe even the sectional tournament. The ACHS team will be a tough team to beat in the upcoming tournaments.
“Confidence helps a lot, we believe firmly that we have a good chance to qualify as a team for sectionals, let alone even win regionals,” Frasch said.
The golf team looks to keep their successful season going with a win in the regional tournament on Sept. 28.
