Antioch Falls to Deerfield in Opening Game
The girls varsity soccer team played their hardest in their first game of the season against zdeerfield but lost 3-0
The girls varsity soccer team competed in their first game against the Warriors from Deerfield on Tuesday March 13. With a big returning roster this year and only four new members to the team, the Sequoits were hoping to start the season off with a bang.
In the first half, the Sequoits started off strong as they were able to keep possession of the ball and move it up the field. They created multiple scoring opportunities but were unlucky and weren’t able to put the ball in the back of the net.
“I thought we started off great because we were really dominant on the ball and keeping it in the other teams half in the beginning of the game,” senior Ella Roberts said.
Unfortunately, the Warriors were able to work up the field and score three goals in the first half of the game putting the Sequoits behind 3-0 going into halftime.
Starting the second half, the girls demonstrated more aggression and determination in order to get back into the game. While they began to create more scoring opportunities, there was not enough time for the Sequoits to come back from the first half, ending the game behind Deerfield 3-0.
“It was a good first game,” senior Morgan Keefer said. “I think this game will help us mentally when we begin practicing again and we will know what to make improvements on.”
