The dance team competed at the NLCC conference competition held on Wednesday, January 10. With the absence from Round Lake and North Chicago, the Sequoits competed against five other teams with their biggest competition being the Wauconda Bulldogs.

“We knew going into the competition the team that has come the closest to us this season was Wauconda, so they were our biggest competition,” junior and varsity dancer Amber Phillips said.

When it came time for the Sequoits to take the floor, the girls were determined to dominate the competition and bring home a win for Antioch.

The team started the routine off strong and throughout the rest of the performance they continued to stay in sync as well as keeping their technique up to par. Their flawless performance allowed them to be victorious over the rest of the competition. This resulted in the Sequoits receiving the title of NLCC conference champions and continuing the success they have had this season.

“It felt really good to win and see everyone who came to support us,” Phillips said. “It was rewarding because we have worked really hard to improve and perfect our routine and to represent our school.”

Another highlight of the night was junior Anli Butler being awarded the conference sportsmanship award along with four other athletes in the conference.

Come support the Sequoit dancers as they compete on Sunday, January 14 at Grayslake Central.
