One of ACHS’ lesser-known organizations is the Gamers Club, where students can meet and share what they love most with other students and staff. During meetings, members discuss new games and things that have to do with them such as different strategies, tactics to improve levels and skills and equipment, like monitors and keyboards.
Donna Corcoran, the CTE Department Chair, has been teaching at ACHS for 19 years, teaching an assortment of business classes such as personal finance, computer application and entrepreneurship. Corcoran runs Gamers Club with ACHS ILC Director Barbara Mason and CTE teacher Marcia Zboril.
“Gamers Club provides a unique opportunity for students who love video games to hangout and have fun,” Corcoran said.
Sophomore Janus Palmere is one of the members of the Gamers Club at ACHS.
“I enjoy playing video games most, or I wouldn’t be in the club, but hanging out with friends comes at a close second, in all honesty,” Palmere said. “It’s nice to be able to just relax, which is something we as students don’t get to do very often in a school environment.”
Gamers Club, while it is a smaller organization, is a beneficial way to make friends and integrate more social time into an otherwise boring day.
“Other students should join Gamers Club because it’s a nice way to relax after a long day of school, and you get a chance to meet new friends as well as hang out with existing ones,” Palmere said.
Gamers Club meets every monday from 3:15 – 4:30 p.m. in room 206. Anyone who wants to join should contact Corcoran, Zbroli or Mason.
