ACHS Hosts Karneval Celebration

German club festivities started with food and followed with fun and games to celebrate famed tradition.

German club hosted its first Karneval at Antioch Community High School on February 10 after school.  Karneval is German for carnival. It is a fun colorful celebration that originated in Germany, but is now celebrated in many other parts of the world.

The club participated in multiple games and activities. In the balloon race, each team sent one person with a pin attached to a hat and attempted to use it to pop a balloon. This continued with the remaining members on the team. For the pudding race, everyone was blindfolded and in pairs of two, with the pairs in rows. One person fed pudding to the other person. Once they were finished the pair next to them started. The first team to finish won.

Of course what’s a party without the food?Everyone enjoyed traditional food and enjoyed each others company.

“I like that everyone gets to come after school and have a little fun. [German club] takes away the stress of the school day after I get to enjoy some good food with my friends,” said freshman Tommy Cerney.

30 members along with other people enjoyed the first carnival ever.
