Dancing to the Top Five
The ACHS dance team went to state and placed in the top five.
The Antioch varsity dance team competed in the IHSA dance state finals in Bloomington-Normal on January 26 and 27. After winning first place at IHSA sectionals, the team competed against twenty five of the best teams in the state. Their performance got them another chance to compete at day two. They ended up winning fourth place out of the entire state which is a huge and impressive accomplishment that made all their hard work pay off.
“I honestly was a little overwhelmed. Being fourth in the state, especially as a freshman, is amazing,” freshman Kelsi Sheren said. “I’m so proud of my teammates and how far we have come this year.”
Being sectional champions comes with huge expectations to uphold, but becoming fourth in the state was a bigger accomplishment than the dancers ever thought they were capable of achieving.
“We were all so grateful to even make it to the second day of state,” freshman Kara Galarneau said. “To place fourth behind such amazing teams felt really good.”
As big as this accomplishment was, the team is already looking ahead at what next year will bring them.
“I think next year we hope to place in the top three an
d make it to the podium,” Galarneau said. “Now we know how capable we are of doing so.”
Now that the 2017-18 season has come to an end, the Antioch varsity dance team can say they are fourth in the state. This season has been a success for the team and they can’t wait to see what next year brings them.
