2017 Oscar Nominations Revealed
The nominees for the highly anticipated Academy Awards have officially been announced, with “La La Land” ranking in record-tying nominations.
On Jan. 24, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for the 89th Academy Awards. The Oscars are the final and most awaited award show of the season. The night is filled with all of the highly acclaimed actors and actresses of film, dazzling performances throughout the show while culminating all the glitz and glamour of hollywood in one night.
“La La Land” is expected to win big, after racking up six wins at The Golden Globes. The film gathered fourteen nominations, tying with “Titanic” and “All About Eve” for the most of any movie in the history of film. The musical’s nominations include best picture, leads for both Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, best director and best original score.
Other standout films include “Moonlight,” which was nominated for eight awards, including best picture and supporting awards for Mahershala Ali and Naomie Harris. Also nominated for eight awards is “Arrival.” Even though none of the actors were nominated for their roles in the film, it is a contender for cinematography and sound, production design and best film and director.
“Manchester by The Sea,” “Hacksaw Ridge” and “Lion” also impressively racked up six nominations each, all nominated for best picture. Most notable is Mel Gibson, who was nominated for best director in “Hacksaw Ridge” after being seen as an pariah in Hollywood films.
The Academy Awards, which will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, air Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. on ABC.
