20 in a Row
The girls basketball team extend their streak to 20 games nearing the NSC Championship.
In the game of basketball, certain teams often find themselves on winning streaks. This year, Antioch Community High School’s own girls basketball team is one of them.
On Saturday, Jan. 24, the Lady Sequoits managed to pull out a win at Round Lake High School to mark their twentieth victory in a row. The final score of the game was 52-26.
At Saturday’s contest, Amy and Ashley Reiser led the way once again. The Reisers both scored 10 points. Senior Carly McCameron and junior Kelly Johnson both chipped in six points a piece.
Ashley Reiser said, “I am very proud of the team. We would not be as successful and where we are today with out every single girl on the team. It is a pleasure having the ability to play and grow with them as a team every day.”
Every day they do grow by working hard.
“The main reason we won 20 in a row is because we take it one game at a time. We don’t look too far ahead. We learn from our mistakes and keep moving forward,” said head coach Tim Borries.
Borries and the girls basketball team are expecting a divisional title. As of right now, they need one more win to clinch the Prairie Division. If they do, they will play the winner of the Lake Division for the North Suburban Conference Championship.
“The 20 game winning streak is something that I am honored to be apart of, and we have the potential to do great things,” said Ashley Reiser. “People can expect great things from us in the near future as our season comes to and end. We give our all each and every day in practice, hoping our hard work pays off in the long run.”
Whether the long run is a winning streak or the State Series, Antioch can surely count on big things to happen for the girls basketball team.
