13 Reasons Why Review
This past weekend, Antioch Community High School presented its take on the play “13 Reasons Why,” based on the classic book.
The play, based on Jay Asher’s 2007 novel, is about a girl named Hannah Baker, played by sophomore Sandra Colman, who commits suicide in the play. Hannah created 13 tapes to tell her story of why she did what she did. Each story tells the tale of how someone contributed to her death.
Everyone who is in the tapes receives them, and each recipient must listen to all thirteen stories. If the recipients refuse to comply, a second set of tapes will be shown to the public, and the charters darkest secrets will be revealed.
The story begins when one of the recipients, Clay Jensen (played by sophomore Cole Connelly), receives the tapes on his door step. When Clay receives the tapes, the story goes on and reveals his journey of finding out why Hannah ultimately killed herself.
“I went and saw the play on Saturday,” senior Jordan Coutcher said. “I’ve never read the book, but the storyline was really interesting. I did see some mistakes here and there, but that is not that big of a deal. Overall, I thought the cast did such a good job making this play really interesting and enjoyable, even though it was such a dark story and topic.”
Overall, the the cast did a wonderful job and had a great time working together and participating in the show.
“My experience with the play was an amazing one,” senior Cody Matonik said. “I learned so many new things and also gained a new family with this cast. They are all such amazing people, and I am grateful I got to work with all of them during this production. It is sad to see it come to an end.”
