From national news to community and school events, there are a variety of things to be aware of around ACHS this week.

1. Wear-Out Wednesday

This week’s Wear Out Wednesday theme is PJ Day. This is your chance to come to school in comfy clothes!

 

2. Sequoit Pride Fundraiser

As one of the greatest sources of revenue for ACHS, Sequoit Pride is hosting their annual fundraiser on Saturday, March 18 at the VFW Hall in Antioch. Including a Roaring 20’s theme, dinner, auction and concert, Sequoit Pride hopes to continue providing endless opportunities for students through the profits of the event.

 

3. Track Conference Meet

The ACHS Track and Field team competed at their first meet of the season last Thursday, March 9, at University of Wisconsin-Parkside. As newcomers to the Northern Lake County Conference for athletic programs this year, Antioch represented well at the championship, placing 4th overall.

 

4. Writer’s Week

As the week before the English Department’s annual Writer’s Week event, it is the last chance for students to sign up for a workshop with one of the many speakers attending. From writers to journalists to actors, students have a wide variety of opportunities to experience next week.  If interested in taking part in a workshop, sign up Here.

 

5. Local Elections

Everyone followed ardently after the 2016 Presidential Election as it consisted of heated controversy between two bipartisan candidates. However, Antioch and the Lake County area is quickly approaching their own local elections. The consolidated election is to take place on April 4 for various township and county positions affecting Antioch citizens.

 

6. Weather Alert

While much of the country was engulfed in 70-degree weather just before the official start of spring, America now faces extreme alerts to incoming wind gusts and blizzards. Although March is often times looked at as a month of pre-spring rain, this year’s forecast is estimating 20 inches of snow and 40-50 mph wind for the Midwest and East coast.

 

7. Varsity Soccer Game

Following recent tryouts and team placings, the girls Varsity soccer team is playing their first game this Tuesday, March 14 against Deerfield High School. Come support the team at Deerfield at 7 p.m.

 

8. Model UN Field Trip

The Sequoit Model United Nations team performed well in their delegation conference at University of Illinois this past weekend. The team was awarded outstanding small delegation and senior Gabrielle Kalisz was recognized as Outstanding Delegate for her representation of Mexico in the World Health Organization simulation.

 

9. Socks Save our Soles

Donating to the Open Arms Mission, the Socks Save our Soles drive is continuing this week in the main office and room 243. Donations of new, unused socks can be made through Friday, March 17.

 

10. Yoga Club

While school and extracurricular activities cause much unneeded stress in the lives of students, Teri Klobnak kicked off her Thursday afternoon yoga club a few weeks ago., In hopes of creating a relaxed mindset for students, the weekly event takes place in the dance room at 3:00 p.m. on Thursdays and is open for all students to attend.
