1. WRESTLERS PLACE AT STATE

Seniors Nathan Dlugopolski and Jacob Gross joined juniors Patrick Schoenfelder and George Bessette at the state wresting tournament last weekend. Schoenfelder took second place in the 152 pound weight class; Bessette took fourth in the 195 pound class. Dlugopolski took 5th in the 126 pound class and Gross took 6th in the 113 pound class.

2. POPE, TRUMP AT ODDS

Pope Francis suggested that Republican candidate Donald Trump “is not Christian” on Thursday in Mexico. Trump downplayed the pontiff’s accusations, yet still fired back at the Vatican the same day. The Pope also said that contraception may be used to battle the Zika virus.

3. SUMMER IN WINTER WEEK COMES TO A SWEET CLOSE

Antioch’s yearly spirit week in the winter rolled through the school this week, with festivities throughout the days. Sweets were handed out for Sequoit slips in the commons, the 30-60-90s band played one morning and the turnabout dance finished the week off with its “Candyland” theme.

4. MOCKINGBIRD AUTHOR HARPER LEE DIES

The critically acclaimed author, best known for her controversial novel “To Kill a Mockingbird,” passed away at 89 on Friday. Most students who come through ACHS read her book during their freshman year. In 2015, Lee published the sequel to “To Kill a Mockingbird,” “Go Set a Watchman.”

5. ACADEMIC TEAM WINS CONFERENCE

Antioch’s academic team won the conference championship on Wednesday in their final competition of the season. They overcame many early-season foes, including crosstown rival Lakes and the top-seeded Stevenson.

6. APPLE FIGHTING GOVERNMENT OVER SECURITY

The FBI demanded that Apple allow them to break into the iPhone of one of the San Bernardino terrorists through legislation written in 1789. Apple refused the mandate, with CEO Tim Cook expressing the dangers of creating a “backdoor.” Google, Twitter and other technology companies have voiced their support for Cook.

7. BOTH BASKETBALL TEAMS DOMINATE

The girl’s basketball team won the regional championship over Marian Central on Friday after manhandling Elmwood in the semi-final 93-25. Meanwhile, the boy’s team easily beat Grant 63-54 on Friday.

8. RANDOM SHOOTING IN MICHIGAN

An Uber driver in Kalamazoo, Michigan, killed at least six on Saturday night. Jason Dalton, 45, shot apparently random people in various places around town for two hours, picking up Uber passengers in between and after his rampage.

9. TRUMP, CLINTON ON TOP AFTER MORE PRIMARIES

Republican front-runner Donald Trump won the South Carolina primary on Saturday. Meanwhile, Democrat Hillary Clinton took home the Nevada caucuses. Republicans Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz took close seconds in South Carolina, while Democrat Bernie Sanders lost to Clinton by 5 percent.

10. MASSIVE STORM PULVERIZES FIJI

Tropical Storm Winston hit the tiny island nation on Saturday, closing schools for a week. The storm was the strongest in the Southern Hemisphere on record. Winds of 184 mph caused power outages and widespread flooding.
