1.THE CHICAGO CUBS WIN THE WORLD SERIES
After seven long games the Chicago Cubs take home the World Series for the first time in 108 years.. The close game against the Cleveland Indians went for 10 innings and ended eight to seven with the Cubs on top. Following the win, the Cubs were honored in a parade through downtown Chicago on Friday; this parade had an estimated five million people in attendance, all who celebrated like it was 1908.
2.SEQUOIT FOOTBALL ENDS THEIR HISTORIC SEASON IN SECOND ROUND OF PLAYOFFS
After being only one of three teams to ever go 9-0 in school history, football held their heads high after their last game Saturday. The team played DeKalb High School at home with a final score of 3-36. The team ends with a 10-1 record and are proud of the season they had.
3.BOYS BASKETBALL TRYOUTS BEGIN THIS WEEK
Boys basketball begins this week, with tryouts for every level starting. Last year the boys team won a regional title for the first time since the 1980s. After last year’s successful season the team is ready to see what this year brings.
4.GIRLS BOWLING TRYOUTS BEGIN
Girls bowling begins their season this week, with senior Jamie Bailey leading tryouts. With their first match soon approaching, the team is hoping to repeat a successful season and make it closer to the state finals.
5.DERRICK ROSE AND JOAKIM NOAH PLAY TOGETHER AT THE UNITED CENTER FOR THE FIRST TIME IN NON-BULLS UNIFORM
With Rose and Noah now playing for the Knicks, Friday night was the first they have played in Chicago while not representing the Bulls. Not only did the Knicks pulled off a 115 to 104 win with the help of Rose and Noah, but the well known Chance the Rapper made them a tribute video.
6.CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS BEAT DALLAS STARS
With their lead in the central division the Blackhawks claim their eighth win this season. Taking the first win 3-2 in a double header against the Stars.
7.DANCE AND CHEER PREP FOR COMPETITION SEASON
With football season now over cheer and dance will receive their share of the spotlight as they prep for their competition season. While they will still cheer on the Sequoit basketball program, they will begin their own competitions. The teams hope to qualify for the state championships this season.
8.BEARS HAVE THEIR BYE WEEK AFTER A BIG VICTORY
The Chicago Bears have an off week this week after their win over the Minnesota Vikings last Monday. The Bears took home a 20-10 win over the current NFC North Champions. Despite this win they are still forth in the conference.
9.CLAY MATTHEWS OF THE GREEN BAY PACKERS IS OUT BECAUSE OF INJURY
After missing their last game against the Lions with ankle and hamstring injuries, Matthews is questionable again to play this week. Due to the same hamstring injury, it doesn’t look like there is a high chance of Matthews playing this weekend, against the Indianapolis Colts.
10.ANTIOCH SWIM TEAM BEGINS THEIR SEASON
One of the few new sports being added to ACHS this year is swimming; with coach and English teacher Jim Helen, the team is looking to make a splash in their first season as a school sport.
