10 Things to Know for Sports, December 5
- Girls Varsity bowling team has a match on December 5 at 4:30 p.m. vs Grant at the Guttormsen Recreation Center. Come out and support the girls for their third match of the season!
- Girls Varsity basketball has an away game against Grayslake Central on Tuesday, December 6 at 7 p.m. Make the trip and support your Lady Sequoits.
- Varsity wrestling will be traveling to Grayslake Central for a match on Thursday, December 8 at 7 p.m. Wrestling then follows up with a home meet on Friday, December 9 against the Grant Bulldogs at 7 p.m.
- Varsity cheerleading has their first competition this Sunday, December 11 at Rockford (Guilford) High School. The girls will be performing at approximately 9:30 a.m. The girls are all eager to kick off their competition season.
- Boys basketball has a home game on Wednesday, December 7 at 7 p.m. against Grant. Go cheer the boys onto a 2-0 conference record.
- NFL All-Pro Tight End Rob Gronkowski with the New England Patriots was placed on injured reserve and is done for the season. Gronkowski is expecting to have back surgery within the next week to improve his herniated disk. This loss to the Patriots really hurts their chances on reaching the super bowl again.
- The Chicago Bulls beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in a close game on Friday, December 2 with a score of 111-105. LeBron James, who lost a bet on the World Series to Chicago Bull Dwayne Wade, showed up to the United Center decked out in a full Cubs uniform.
8.The Chicago Bears finally got another win this season improving to 3-9 after beating the San Francisco 49ers with a score of 26-6. Even with this most recent win, the Bears remain last in the division and will most likely be watching the playoffs from home.
- Top 4 College Football Playoff rankings were announced, and results remained unchanged from prior weeks. No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Clemson and No. 4 Washington. First round action kicks off this Saturday, December 31.
- The Dallas Cowboys became the first team in the NFL to clinch a playoff spot this year, following a Redskins loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The Cowboys are sitting with 11-1 record and are currently on an 11 game winning streak thanks to rookies Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott.
